Browsing Exercises

AndreiWritten by Andrei

What is this?

The exercise library in Athli contains a full searchable database of exercises. It includes thousands of built-in exercises with professional video demonstrations, as well as any custom exercises you have created. You can browse, search, and filter exercises to find exactly what you need when building workouts or exploring movement options for your clients.

Why is it useful?

  • Quickly find exercises by name without scrolling through the entire list
  • Discover new exercises by browsing categories and muscle groups
  • View video demonstrations and exercise details before adding them to a workout
  • Exercise cards give you a quick overview of each movement at a glance
  • The same browsing experience is available both in the library and in the exercise picker when building workouts

Step-by-Step Guide

Accessing the Exercise Library

  1. Go to Library in the sidebar.
  2. Select the Training tab.
  3. Click Exercises.

You will see the full list of exercises, including both built-in and custom exercises.

Browsing Categories

Exercises are organized into categories such as strength, cardio, flexibility, and more. To browse by category:

  1. Use the category filter in the filter panel.
  2. Select one or more categories to narrow the list.
  3. Browse the filtered results.

Viewing Exercise Details

Click on any exercise to open its detail view. The detail view includes:

  • Exercise name
  • Target muscles (primary and secondary)
  • Equipment required (barbell, dumbbell, machine, bodyweight, etc.)
  • Category (strength, cardio, flexibility, etc.)
  • Video demonstration showing proper form and technique

Understanding Exercise Cards

In the list view, each exercise card shows key information at a glance:

  • Name of the exercise
  • Target muscles displayed as tags
  • Equipment needed for the movement

This lets you quickly scan and compare exercises without opening each one individually.

Things to Note

  • The exercise library is the same whether you access it from Library > Training > Exercises or from the exercise picker inside the workout builder.
  • Built-in exercises are read-only. You cannot edit their name, muscles, or video. To modify a built-in exercise, duplicate it and edit the copy.
  • Custom exercises you create appear alongside built-in exercises in the library.
  • The search works on exercise names. For filtering by muscle group or equipment, use the filter panel.
  • Video demonstrations are sourced from MuscleWiki for built-in exercises and play directly in the app.

FAQs

Can I search for exercises by muscle group?

The search bar works on exercise names. To find exercises by muscle group, use the filter panel to select the target muscle (e.g., chest, back, legs). See the article on filtering exercises for details.

Do custom exercises appear in the same list?

Yes. Custom exercises are mixed in with built-in exercises and can be found using the same search and filter tools.

Can I browse exercises while building a workout?

Yes. The exercise picker in the workout builder provides the same search, browse, and filter experience as the standalone exercise library.

How many built-in exercises are there?

The library includes thousands of built-in exercises covering all major muscle groups, equipment types, and training categories.
