Drag and Drop to Reorder Exercises

AndreiWritten by Andrei

What is this?

The Workout Builder supports drag-and-drop functionality, allowing you to reorder exercises within a workout by clicking and dragging them to a new position. You can move exercises within the same section, between different sections, or at the top level of the workout.

Why is it useful?

Exercise order matters for training outcomes. You might want to place compound movements before isolation work, prioritise lagging muscle groups early in the session, or simply rearrange exercises after adding them in a different order. Drag and drop makes reorganising a workout fast and intuitive without needing to delete and re-add exercises.

Step-by-Step Guide

Reordering Exercises Within a Workout

  1. Open the Workout Builder for the workout you want to edit.
  2. Hover over the exercise card you want to move. A drag handle icon (typically a set of dots or lines) appears on the left side of the exercise card.
  3. Click and hold the drag handle.
  4. While holding, drag the exercise card up or down to the desired position. A visual indicator (a highlighted line or shadow) shows where the exercise will be placed.
  5. Release the mouse button to drop the exercise into its new position.
  6. The exercise order updates immediately.

Moving Exercises Between Sections

  1. Click and hold the drag handle on the exercise you want to move.
  2. Drag the exercise out of its current section and into a different section.
  3. The target section will highlight or expand to indicate it can accept the exercise.
  4. Drop the exercise at the desired position within the target section.

Reordering Sections

In addition to reordering individual exercises, you can reorder entire sections:

  1. Locate the section header.
  2. Click and hold the drag handle on the section header.
  3. Drag the entire section (with all its exercises) to a new position in the workout.
  4. Release to confirm the new order.

Things to Note

  • The drag handle must be used to initiate a drag. Clicking other parts of the exercise card will not start a drag operation.
  • Exercises within supersets, trisets, or giant sets can be reordered within the group using the same drag-and-drop method.
  • If you drag an exercise out of a superset group, it becomes a standalone exercise.
  • Changes to exercise order are reflected in real time within the builder. Save the workout to persist the new order.
  • On touch devices, press and hold the drag handle to initiate the drag gesture.
  • The drag-and-drop interface provides visual feedback (drop zones, highlighted areas) to help you place exercises accurately.

FAQs

Can I drag exercises into a superset? Yes. Dragging an exercise onto an existing superset group will add it to that group, potentially converting a superset into a triset or giant set.

Does reordering exercises affect the client's workout immediately? Changes take effect after you save the workout. The client will see the updated order the next time they open the workout in the mobile app.

Can I undo a drag-and-drop action? There is no dedicated undo button for drag actions. If you drop an exercise in the wrong place, simply drag it again to the correct position.

Is drag and drop supported on mobile browsers? The Workout Builder is optimised for desktop use. Drag and drop works best with a mouse or trackpad. On mobile devices, the experience may vary.
