What is this?
The exercise library includes a filter panel that lets you narrow down the exercise list by muscle group, equipment type, and category. Instead of scrolling through thousands of exercises, you can apply one or more filters to quickly find exactly what you need. The same filtering system is available both in the standalone exercise library and in the exercise picker when building workouts.
Why is it useful?
- Find exercises targeting a specific muscle group in seconds
- Filter by available equipment to match what your client has access to
- Combine multiple filters to get highly specific results
- Speeds up workout building by reducing the time spent searching for exercises
- Works the same way everywhere you browse exercises in Athli
Step-by-Step Guide

Filtering by Category

- Flexibility

- The list narrows to exercises in the selected categories.
Combining Filters
You can apply filters from multiple categories at the same time. For example:
- Muscle Group: Chest + Equipment: Dumbbell = All dumbbell chest exercises
- Muscle Group: Legs + Equipment: Bodyweight + Category: Plyometrics = Bodyweight leg plyometric exercises
- Equipment: Barbell + Category: Strength = All barbell strength exercises
Filters are additive across categories, meaning the exercise must match at least one selection in each active filter category.

Using Filters in the Workout Builder
The same filter panel is available when adding exercises to a workout:

- Apply filters to find the right exercise, then click to add it to the workout.

Things to Note
- Filters work on both built-in and custom exercises.
- The filter panel is available in the exercise library and in the exercise picker within the workout builder.
- Selecting multiple options within the same filter category (e.g., Chest and Back) shows exercises that target either muscle group.
- Combining filters across categories (e.g., Chest + Dumbbell) shows exercises that match all selected categories.
- Search and filters can be used together. Search by name first, then apply filters to narrow results further.
FAQs
Can I save a filter combination for later?
Filter selections are not saved between sessions. You will need to reapply them each time you visit the library.
Do filters work on custom exercises?
Yes. As long as you assigned muscle groups, equipment, and categories when creating the custom exercise, it will appear in filtered results.
Can I filter exercises while building a workout?
Yes. The exercise picker in the workout builder includes the same filter panel as the standalone exercise library.
