Section Builder

AndreiWritten by Andrei

What is this?

The Section Builder lets you create reusable workout sections in your library. A section is a group of exercises with a specific training format (regular sets, AMRAP, Tabata, HIIT, EMOM, or circuits) that you can save once and drop into any workout.

Why is it useful?

  • Build your go-to warm-ups, finishers, or circuits once and reuse them
  • Keep your programming consistent across clients
  • Save time by not rebuilding the same exercise combinations repeatedly
  • Share standardized sections across programs and workouts

Where to find it

  1. Go to Library in the sidebar.
  2. Select the Training tab.
  3. Click Sections.

Section Types

Each section has a training format that determines how exercises are performed:

TypeDescription
RegularStandard strength training with sets, reps, and rest periods
AMRAPAs Many Rounds/Reps As Possible within a time limit
TabataHigh-intensity intervals: 20s work, 10s rest, 8 rounds
HIITHigh-intensity interval training with customizable work/rest
EMOMEvery Minute On the Minute with set duration
CircuitsCircuit training with a set number of rounds

Default Configurations

Some section types come with preset defaults:

  • Tabata: 20s work, 10s rest, 8 rounds
  • HIIT: 40s work, 20s rest, 10 rounds
  • EMOM: 60s intervals, 10 minutes total
  • Circuits: 3 rounds

You can customize all values when building the section.

Creating a Section

  1. Click Add Section from the sections library page.
  2. Enter a name and optional tags for organization.
  3. Select the section type (Regular, AMRAP, Tabata, etc.).
  4. Add exercises from your exercise library.
  5. Configure each exercise with sets, reps, weight, rest, or other relevant fields depending on the section type.
  6. Save the section.

Adding Exercises to a Section

  • Click the + button to browse and add exercises from your library.
  • Drag exercises to reorder them within the section.
  • Create supersets by grouping exercises together.
  • Use the AI generator to auto-fill a section from a text prompt.

Configuring Exercises

Depending on the exercise type, you can set different fields per set:

  • Weight and Reps - For strength exercises (e.g., 4x10 @ 80kg)
  • Reps Only - For bodyweight or rep-based exercises
  • Distance and Duration - For cardio exercises (e.g., 400m in 2:00)

Each exercise can have multiple sets with individual values. Use the link/unlink toggle to set all sets to the same value or customize each one.

Using Sections in Workouts

Once saved to your library, sections appear when building workouts:

  1. Open the Workout Builder (from a program, client training, or library).
  2. Click Add Section.
  3. Browse your saved sections and select one.
  4. The section, including all exercises and settings, is added to the workout.
  5. You can still customize it for the specific workout without affecting the library version.

Managing Sections

From the sections library, you can:

  • Search by name or filter by type and tags
  • Edit any section by clicking on it
  • Duplicate a section to create a variation
  • Delete sections you no longer need (bulk delete supported)

Tips

  • Name sections descriptively (e.g., "Upper Body Warm-Up" or "5-Min AMRAP Finisher") so they are easy to find later.
  • Use tags to categorize sections (e.g., "warm-up", "finisher", "legs").
  • Build a library of sections for different training phases and reuse them across programs.

FAQs

What is the difference between a section and a workout?

A workout is a complete training session. A section is a building block within a workout. One workout can contain multiple sections (e.g., a warm-up section, a main strength section, and a finisher circuit).

If I edit a library section, does it update in existing workouts?

No. Once a section is added to a workout, it becomes independent. Editing the library version does not change workouts that already use it.

Can I use AI to generate a section?

Yes. The section builder includes the same AI generation feature as the workout builder. Enter a text prompt and AI will suggest exercises and configuration.

Is there a limit to how many exercises a section can have?

There is no hard limit. Add as many exercises as needed for your training format.
