What is this?
A section is a group of exercises with a specific training format. Sections are the building blocks of workouts. Every workout you create in Athli is made up of one or more sections, each with its own format, exercises, and configuration.
Think of a workout as a container and sections as the pieces inside it. A single workout might have a warm-up section, a main strength section, and a conditioning finisher, each with different exercises, timing, and structure.
Why is it useful?
- Organizes workouts into clear, logical blocks that clients can follow
- Lets you mix different training styles within one session (e.g., strength + conditioning)
- Sections can be saved to your library and reused across multiple workouts
- Makes it easy to swap out one part of a workout without rebuilding the whole thing
- Gives clients a structured flow so they know exactly what to do and when
Step-by-Step Guide
Understanding Section Types
Each section has a training format that determines how exercises are performed:
| Type | Description |
|---|---|
| Regular | Standard strength training with sets, reps, and rest periods |
| AMRAP | As Many Rounds/Reps As Possible within a time limit |
| Tabata | High-intensity intervals: 20s work, 10s rest, 8 rounds |
| HIIT | High-intensity interval training: 40s work, 20s rest, 10 rounds |
| EMOM | Every Minute On the Minute: 60s intervals, 10 minutes total |
| Circuits | Circuit training with a set number of rounds (default 3) |
Difference Between a Section and a Workout
A workout is a complete training session assigned to a client on a specific day. A section is a building block within that workout. One workout can contain as many sections as you need.
For example, a workout called "Monday Upper Body" might contain:
- Warm-Up (Regular section) - Band pull-aparts, arm circles
- Main Strength (Regular section) - Bench press, overhead press, rows
- Finisher (AMRAP section) - Push-ups, pull-ups, dips for 8 minutes

Things to Note
- Each section operates independently within a workout. Changing one section does not affect others.
- You can reorder sections within a workout by dragging them.
- Saving a section to the library creates a copy. Editing the library version does not change workouts already using it.
- There is no limit to how many sections a workout can contain.
FAQs
Can I have multiple sections of different types in one workout?
Yes. You can mix and match section types freely. A workout could have a Regular section for warm-up, an EMOM for the main work, and a Tabata finisher.
What happens if I delete a section from a workout?
Only that section and its exercises are removed. Other sections in the workout remain untouched.
Can I duplicate a section within the same workout?
Yes. Use the section menu to duplicate it. This is useful when you want a similar block with slight modifications.
